Rose's boyfriend took her for granted. Their life was comfortable for him. But the Auton attack changed that. Rose realised she could do better, and Mickey proved to be a victim.
When she returned, he told her that he'd been under police surveillance as prime suspect in connection with her disappearance. He is happy to be a friend, but he doesn't have much else going for him. He and Jackie are nearly killed by a Slitheen. But he helps save the day when he hacks into UN website, launching a missile at 10 Downing Street. He seems to find closure with the Doctor, too, who trusts him with a disc to erase him from the Net. But he doesn't use it.
He next appears when the TARDIS lands in Cardiff. By now, he and Rose have grown far apart, and he is dismissive of the Doctor and the newcomer, Jack.
When Rose is sent back to London from the future, Mickey is pleased to see her, especially with the Doctor not around. He helps her with her attempt to open the TARDIS console, his car proving inadequate. He remains with Jackie when Rose heads back to the future
