Synopsis

 

The Doctor and his companions arrive on Earth of the near future only to find it has been invaded by the Daleks who have turned the human race into slaves. What is the purpose behind the enormous mining project the Daleks are undertaking? Can the Doctor and his companions help the human resistance movement to foil the Daleks plans?

  1. The first departure of an original cast member.
  2. This was Carole Ann Ford's last regular appearance as Susan. She actually cried while filming the final scenes as Susan. She reprised her role as Susan in DW: The Five Doctors (which starred Peter Davison as the Doctor) alongside Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, and briefly inDW: Dimensions in Time alongside Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor.
  3. All episodes exist in 16mm telerecordings.
  4. The Waking Ally was also held by the BBC in 35mm in 1978.
  5. Negative film prints of all episodes were recovered by the BBC in 1978.
  6. Arabic prints of World's End, The Daleks, The End of Tomorrow and Flashpoint are all held by the BBC.
  7. The story went by the working titles The DaleksThe Return of the Daleks, and The Invaders.
  8. This story was filmed along with Planet of Giants as part of the first series bloc of stories.
  9. William Hartnell does not appear in The End of Tomorrow due to an injury although his stand-in Edmund Warwick does.
  10. This was David Whitaker's final story as story editor.
