| CHARACTER: Cybermen The Cybermen originally were Mondasians, Mondas was a twin planet of Earth. The Mondasians evolved more quickly than humnans, specialising in cybernetics. Using their skills the Mondassians tried to extend their lifespan by replacing body parts with cybernetic components. Soon they had replaced almost every organ with machine, turning themselves into cold, ruthless, unemotional machines. Similar to the Daleks , the Cybermen were left with a strong desire to survive. Mondas left the Sol system for unknown reasons, but it wasn't long before humans started to explore space and, inevitably, meet up with the Cybermen again. Alliances began sprining up in the fight against the Cybermen, and there have been many wars against the Cybermen. Also like the Daleks, the Cybermen have had several redesigns - Earthshock introduced a totally new look for the Cybermen. However, unlike the Daleks, Cybermen, being almost entirely machine, can co-exist with earlier, and future, selves. The Cyberman, however they were weak to Gold on some occasions. This was discovered in Revenge of the Cybermen when the Doctor landed on >A href="/voga.html">Voga and in Earthshock because it was also revealed in the Tenth Planet that they were also allergic to a Nail polish remover. Gold coats their respiratory systems and effectively suffocates them. They are also not as well amoured as other creatures, although they do have great strength - the strength of ten men. The Cybermen sometimes use another cyber creature known as a Cybermat. Earlier versions were much smaller, but just as deadly. The Cybermat is capable of jumping, and can be loaded with any kind of poison which it injects into the vitctims' necks. The Cybermen appeared in the new series in series 2 in Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel and Doomsday/Army of Ghosts and at the end of the series 5 finale. Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston were the only Doctors who didn't meet the Cybermen however Jon Pertwee did observe them in Carnival of Monsters on a viewing screen and watched them die by a Raston Warrior Robot in the Five Doctors.
