The Emporer Dalek in 1966
Emporer Dalek

A rank designated to the supreme ruler of the Daleks. There have been at least two Emperors - the first a huge, immobile Dalek who dominated the main city on Skaro. It oversaw the project to identify 'the human factor', the intuitive and illogical means which had led to so many Dalek defeats by humans.

However, when 'the human factor' was implanted into Daleks, instead of becoming cunning, they became independent, asking questions and querying orders. This led to a massive civil war, during which the Emperor and his forces were destroyed. A later Emperor was in fact a mobile casing, housing the dessicated remnants of Davros, the creator of the Daleks.

Two factions of Dalek were searching Earth for a Gallifreyan stellar manipulator, known colloquially as The Hand of Omega. The Doctor tricked the Emperor into revealing itself as Davros, who then activated the manipulator before understanding its true power.

The weapon detonated the sun in Skaro's solar system, before vaporising the Emperor's ship. He, however, managed to activate his escape pod seconds before his ship was destroyed.

In the final episode of the 2005 series, the Emperor Dalek returned, with a new design and voice, and a new heavily religious doctrine - a great success for the series.
