Having trained as a spy, Jo was foisted on the Brigadier by her uncle at the United Nations. He in turn passed her on to the Doctor as his new assistant, and her very eager, accident-prone manner meant their relationship didn't get off to the best possible start! (Terror of the Autons)

In the end, the Doctor became very fond of his scatty, mini-skirted dolly-bird assistant and was genuinely sad to lose her when she left him to marry scientist and explorer Cliff Jones (The Green Death)

Katy still goes to events and has come back to Doctor Who in Big Finish Plays as Iris Wildtyme.

She now lives in Australia
