A being of pure thought that infected the minds of those it inhabited. It could manifest itself in serpentine form and existed by feeding off the fears of those it occupied. Tegan Jovanka became one of its hosts on Deva Loka before passing into the telepathic mind of one of the Kinda. However, a fragment of the Mara stayed with Tegan, and she subconsciously piloted the TARDIS to Manussa, the Mara's planet of origin. There, it used her to try and re-establish its hold over the population during the festival which culminated in the snakedance. |
