For the first panel Charlie Ross and Terry Molloy had devised a little routine where by Charlie Ross asked Terry Molloy how Terry Molloy had decided to play Davros in Genesis of the Daleks. Anybody who has read the autobiography of Deborah Watling will know of her personal losses and inner pain. The book works because of this honesty. A supportive live audience made her feel at ease talking to them directly about these events in her life. Another comedy routine between Tracey Childs and David Bickerstaff involved Tracey Childs strolling towards the stage whilst David Bickerstaff was trying to introduce her. A stern rebuke was given before the introduction and interview began proper. On Saturday evening screenings of fan efforts featured on You Tube were shown on a big screen. One of which was 'The Ten Doctors'. Created by a fan with no money but with a lot of love for Doctor Who. We were treated to a premier of episode three. During the panel with Keith Temple and Graeme Harper there was the opportunity for audience participation to help Graeme Harper demonstrate 'blocking a scene' from Planet of the Ood. This focus on a particular aspect gave a unique insight of the 'from script to screen' process. David Warner was the last minute replacement for Sir Derek Jacobi and did not disappoint. He is kind, generous and unpretentious. He downplayed the roles he has played to that of a jobbing actor accepting a role to pay the bills. Conclusion: I have already stated in previous Regenerations reviews how pleasant these events are. Yet another example of this is how a young fan, at his first convention, happened to also mention that it was his birthday. Within hours another fan was already organising the signing of a Doctor Who themed birthday card. As other fans heard of this various convention guests including Deborah Watling and Colin Baker were asked to sign the card, which of course they did. Such kindness can only flourish in an environment where an event is organised not for the promotion of a product or to boost a particular individuals ego but because of the shear joy of sharing a common interest. :REVIEW ENDS |
