Rory
Biography

Rory was introduced in "The Eleventh Hour" (2010) as Amy Pond's (Karen Gillan) fiancé and best friend since childhood, with whom she played many games revolving around her supposed imaginary friend, "the raggedy Doctor", based on the time travelling alien she met as a child. Rory is shocked to discover that Amy's imaginary friend is real when the Eleventh Doctor arrives in their village of Leadworth and repels hostile aliens. On the night before their wedding day, Amy agrees to become the Doctor's companion in his time-travelling spacecraft, the TARDIS. When Amy later attempts to seduce the Doctor, the Doctor shows up on Rory's stag night and tries to set him up on a date with Amy in 1580s Venice, to repair their relationship; she is indecisive, though Rory remains in the TARDIS after leaving Venice.

Subsequently, in "Amy's Choice", Amy is torn between two dream worlds: in one, Rory and Amy are happily married former time travellers, expecting a child; in the other, Amy, Rory and the Doctor are hurtling towards their deaths aboard the TARDIS. The group find it hard to decide which reality is true, but Amy is spurred to realise how much she truly loves Rory when he dies in the suburban reality; when they eventually wake up, their relationship is repaired. In the opening scenes of "The Hungry Earth", the Doctor spots an older Amy and Rory sightseeing their (relatively) past adventure in 2020. In "Cold Blood" Rory dies whilst saving the Doctor from being shot by a Silurian.

His body is taken by a crack in time and space, after which Amy ceases to remember him. The Doctor sees the engagement ring that Rory had given to Amy is still in the TARDIS. In a repeat of the opening to "The Hungry Earth", Amy waves to her future self, Rory no longer present - although she pauses, saying she thought she saw two people. The Doctor is still aware of Rory's loss- to the point of accidentally calling Vincent van Gogh 'Rory' ("Vincent and the Doctor")-, and carries Amy's engagement ring from Rory around in his pocket, which Amy discovers while searching his blazer for a pen (Although it is unknown if this will spark any memory of Rory or if she will assume that the Doctor intends to propose himself) ("The Lodger"). however he returned again as an Auton in the Pandorica Opens, and back as a normal human in The Big Bang, when Amy and Rory get married.
