Torchwood New World Sypnosis

The Starz Press-room has release the synopsis for Torchwood The New World…

When C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, he finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race.

The answers seem to lie within an old, secret British institute, known only as Torchwood. But Torchwood was destroyed, years ago, and the keys to the institute are held by its only two survivors – former Police Officer Gwen Cooper, who has long since disappeared along with her husband and child, and the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, a man whose history seems to stretch back centuries.
With Rex under attack from all sides, in both the US and the UK, he soon discovers there are forces at work within every level of society, determined to stop Torchwood’s return. As a chain of events across the world links together the most disparate and unlikely individuals – including a surgeon, a killer, senators and CEOs – a new Torchwood team takes shape. But this time, the threat is much closer to home, as they realize that their greatest enemy is mankind itself…

Torchwood New World

Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies has revealed more details of the upcoming fourth series, including the full title.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next series of the Doctor Who spinoff has been given the subtitle The New World. The episodes will follow CIA agent Rex and analyst Ester as they investigate an alien conspiracy and encounter Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles).

"[Torchwood is] like a legend now... it's like something that's ceased to exist and is now spoken of only in whispers," said Davies. "The two teams coming together is a big part of the story. Are they friends or enemies? There's a lot of sparks and excitement."

The showrunner also explained that airing on the Starz network could allow Torchwood to be more relaxed with regards to violence and sexual content.

"I've always had loose standards and practices," he explained. "If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely."
Executive producer Julie Gardner added that The New World would reboot the show to make it accessible to new viewers.
"We definitely have a really big story to tell," she said. "It's absolutely rebooted to welcome in a new audience."
Torchwood: The New World will air on Starz in the US and on BBC One in the UK.

Torchwood Season 4 writers

The Chicago Tribune has revealed the names of the writing team drafted by Russell T Davies for Torchwood Series 4 – and it’s a pretty impressive list!

Torchwood Series 4 is a co-production between BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide and the Starz network, with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner resuming Executive Producer roles.

- John Shiban (Breaking Bad, Supernatural, The X-Files)

- Doris Egan (House, Tru Calling, Dark Angel) - Jane Espenson (Game of Thrones, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy)

- John Fay (the only UK writer on the team – he wrote two episodes of Torchwood: Children of Earth)

The shows listed above represent some of the biggest genre programming series over the past 20 years – it’s a superb list that promises much for Torchwood Series 4, due to be screened in 2011 with stars John Barrowman and Eve Myles joined by a new international cast.
