The Doctor Who Day at Wookey Hole on Sunday 1st August 2004 was a pleasant event. Just one problem. Lack of information.
As a result the day seemed to have no clear beginning or end. I found myself hanging around the Mirror Maze due to the fact that I knew some fan built Daleks would be there. Sophie Aldred (perfectly pleasant as always) and Dee Sadler (Flower child from the Greatest Show in the Galaxy) signed photos for fans at this location.
There were tours of the caves where Revenge of the Cybermen locations were filmed. These caves are worth a look in their own right. The Master was on hand to answer questions and to point out exactly where sequences of 'Revenge' were filmed.
Once again the lack of information meant that many fans went on the tour when the Master was not there. Some of the guests went on tours as well but again you had to catch the right tour. To be fair the Wookey Hole staff were prepared to refund the tour fee to anyone who felt they had got on the wrong tour.
After leaving the caves the attendees found themselves in a green rock walled valley where all the guests had decided to take advantage of the good weather for autograph signing. A crude police box was available for photo opportunities.
Other guests were Colin Baker, Terry Molloy, Anneke Wills, Wendy Padbury and Marc Danbury (Tog from the Axis of Insanitiy).
Nicholas Courtney, who was not listed as a guest, was there much to the gratitude of the attendees. At the end of the day as Mr Courtney drove away a group of fans saluted him as his car went by.
Despite the information problems the event was a nice relaxed day and the staff of Wookey Hole were clearly enthusiastic about having Doctor Who there for the day.
I understand the organisers wish to do a two day event at Wookey Hole next year. I am sure that lessons will be learnt from this years event and there is no reason why it should not be a complete success.
